Greetings and welcome!
We are quite a bit behind where we would usually be for December 9th. The nights have been getting cold enough, but the days remain in the 30s and 40s. I haven’t checked the lake in a few days but earlier this week when I drove by Waubee Lake it looked like it had frozen across, opened up, and then refrozen. At that point our ice (and frost in the ground) is not quite where I’d like it to be before the snow comes. We are getting there though, last night got down to 8ºF.
We are not in much danger of the snow coming before stuff has a chance to freeze up though. Right now the ground is white but just barely. We had as much as 4″ down right before gun deer hunting, but that went away with warm days. Our next chance of real snow comes about Thursday. That is a big storm, but the latest model run shows it mostly staying to our south. Previous runs showed it tracking too far west and putting us mostly on the rain side of the storm so no big loss. You just never know, so I will be keeping an eye on it.
Some parts of the western UP have open trails, but there isn’t much there. Iron Co, WI opened some trails today (Article Link), but again it is early season conditions.
There are riding opportunities if you are willing to travel and deal with early season stuff. Around the Crivitz to Lakewood area we have a ways to go.
I have tried another theme for the look of the site. We will see how it goes.
One last thought.. While we are waiting for the snow and cold you might want to get a head start joining a club and getting the process started for cheap trail passes.
That is it for now. Have a good one and thank you for visiting!
