Greetings and welcome!
Well it is that time of year I guess. I got a look around this morning and it is about as expected. The sun did a lot of damage to sunny spots and south facing hillsides. Those are bare. Roads and road shoulders are bare. Some spots are icy from the freeze/thaw/freeze cycle. At the same time sheltered areas really hold a lot of snow.
The way that I see it what we have is last chance spring riding. It ain’t gonna be pretty but you can do it, and there is a lot of good trail in between the bad spots. You just need to pick your spots. Ranch Road or Caldron Falls Road? Not unless you have wheels on your skis. The RR grade along 32? Mostly no. The woods between here and Lakewood? Rock n Roll! Sheltered forest roads? Rock it.
Now keep in mind that this is the area around Caldron Falls Flowage. I don’t know what conditions are like 20 miles north. Maybe the sun didn’t do as much damage up there or they had enough snow to handle the sun. There are some folks up there that hate me because they think that my reports cover those areas too. I don’t know what the conditions are in Goodman any more than a guy in Racine, WI or Dallas,TX does. Check back with them Tuesday for their updates.
Anyway, the way that I am seeing it you can ride, just be ready for some bad spring stuff. I also think that our riding areas are going to get significantly smaller as spring progresses. The sun is full on wicked now and it will only get worse. I saw it burn up 6+ inches of heavy wet snow in sunny spots in less than a day this week.
We have some snow coming tonight. Right now it looks like from Green Bay south will see 2-4 or 3-6. We are in the 1-3 zone and on the edge of the 2-4 area. Hopefully it gets WAY out of hand.
The radar snow last night was exactly that.. radar snow. There wasn’t a speck of it on my step this morning. Too bad, we could use it.
That is it for today. I will be back tomorrow with a snowfall report and sooner if something important happens.
Have a good Thursday and thank you for visiting!
