Greetings and welcome!
The season is in its last final gasps around here (Near Caldron Falls Flowage). There is a lot of nice icy trail base but a lot of dirt too. The sun softens up the trail base in the afternoon so it is possible to get a ride.
The trails north of Brandywine and especially north of Benson Lake Rd fared a lot better but still have icy spots and bare spots. Apparently the loggers plowed the trail between Jungle Jim’s and Brandywine, so be aware of that.
Yesterday when I went to Lakewood the Paul Bunyan trails still looked good along the roads and what I could see into the woods. Again it will be icy with some dirt in sunny spots, and the base melting later in the day will give some lube for slides. As expected the grade is deteriorating.
I really don’t have much hope of a last minute reprieve. Next week’s temperatures are expected to be in the mid-40s and possibly mid-50s next Wednesday. Worse yet.. when I look at the 10 day Euro model our 10 day total snowfall is… wait for it… 1″.
There are still riding opportunities, but you need to seek them out in sheltered areas and in the forests. After next week those options will narrow somewhat.
Gas prices as of yesterday were between $4.00 and $4.19 for 87 octane regular. I still have 30 gallons of premium non-ethanol gas that I’d be willing to trade for a 2016 or newer Ski-Doo… Don’t low ball me. I know what I have here.
Have a good Wednesday and thank you for visiting!
