Greetings and welcome!
It was a cold night and as of 10:30am it is still about 15 degrees. We are heading for a high temp of about 25 today. The NWS says 7 degrees tonight then 31 tomorrow, 44 for Friday, and 38 for Saturday. The GFS doesn’t show upper air temperatures above 41F and that is only for a brief time Friday. We will be in a southern flow though and the sun will be out to some degree Friday and Saturday. Let’s hope that it doesn’t get out of hand.
I helped a guy fix a sled this morning and got to test run it a few miles. The trail that I rode north of Caldron Falls Flowage was in good shape even though the groomer hadn’t made it there yet.
Here are a couple of pictures from the way home. They are all from right around the Red Pine BP, Jungle Jim’s, and a few miles down Parkway Rd south. The footprint picture shows moisture under the snow that turned to ice. It was a low spot, it isn’t this dramatic everywhere, but there is some. Cleaning off the car and plow truck yesterday found a sturdy layer of ice under the snow.
Here are some reports of new snow amounts and conditions..
Iron Snowshoe- 6-7″ and grooming.
Paul Bunyan (Lakewood)-5-6″ and grooming
Chute Pond- 4-6″ grooming, fair to good early season conditions
Red Arrow (Townsend)- 6″ Groomed Good to very good
Dun-Good and Near North-6″ Great and excellent respectively

Note that there is a link to the new events page in the left hand column. Speaking of the new left hand column, we have a new sponsor, the Oconto County Tourism Dept. They have a nice new ad that clicks through to their web site, and below that one that clicks through to an interactive site with their tourism guide. Below that is the new events page and a list of area snowmobile clubs. Those things were too important to get buried on a back page, so now we have a second column of information.
Last night I also set up a new donations link where you can subscribe and send a little each month. I had been considering that for a while, and recently one of my benefactors requested a way to do it. Now there is a place for you to subscribe and when the season ends there is also an unsubscribe button.
Later today I am going to saddle up and burn a little of that donation money. The gas and oil tanks are full, the sled has been checked over, and the registration and trail pass are valid. I have some must-do stuff to tackle first, so I am off to get started on it.
Have a good Wednesday and thank you for visiting!
