Greetings and welcome!
Hooray I got the year right!!
El Nino continues to kick out butts. It finally cooled down a little and things are starting to freeze. Ice reports on local lakes range from none to 4-8″. That will be improving nightly. This is a picture of Lake Noquebay from Monday as seen on the Crivitz Area Talk Facebook page and a post by Kim Hanson. (Link to discussion thread)
Things are slowly turning around. For the past 5-6 days our high temps haven’t been much above freezing and overnight lows have been from the mid-teens to low 20s. It isn’t a huge freeze-up, but it is a start. Personally I’d like to see a foot of ice on the lake and frost in the ground before the snow comes but we will take what we can get.
At any rate, we have a little snow to talk about.
First up the cold winds FINALLY blew across Lake Superior and started making some lake effect snow Wednesday. The radar showed the area between Marquette and Munising getting a pretty solid band of snow. A friend in Mercer showed that he had snow as high as a soda can yesterday. I haven’t tracked down totals yet, but the UP finally got a little snow.
We have a little snow coming here tonight and tomorrow. If it really got carried away we could see 2″.
There is a storm showing up for Tuesday that people are getting kind of excited about. I’m not one of them. Current models are showing the low pressure area tracking across the border between Indiana, Ohio, and lower Michigan. Ideally the low would track between Chicago and Green Bay. That puts that storm about 200 miles too far east to be meaningful. Right now it looks like we could see an inch or two.
There are about four more storms showing up on the 16 day GFS model. The first couple are small. The last two, almost two weeks out, look much bigger.
At least there is finally snow in the forecast. I will keep you up to date when it comes our way.
Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!
