Greetings and welcome!

It is another beautiful day in the neighborhood.. if you like January rain storms.

We have a storm over us right now that would be a dandy if it were snow. It isn’t even close, so it is raining again. This morning it was freezing rain. We might see just a little snow on the back of the storm.

When I walked the dog yesterday it was a difficult walk. The road is solid glare ice except for a few spots where the sun got it. Other than that there is an inch or more of ice base. With rain and 33 degrees we are getting more of the same. Hooray.

Over the weekend I was getting a little depressed. Looking at the 16 day GFS forecast model every single storm for the next 16 days was going to miss us, other than today’s big rain storm. They went north, south, and everywhere except for here. It was enough to give a guy delusions of persecution.

There is FINALLY some hope in the days ahead.

The latest model runs are showing a storm for Wednesday night into Thursday and the different models are coming into pretty good agreement that it could hit us. A day or two ago it was going to miss us to the East.  Right now the best guess is for a 3-6 or 4-8 snow. The noon news weather guy’s graphic had us in the 5-7″ range. Hopefully it is enough to get trails opened up again.

Last week I talked about how I didn’t believe that we would get away with January 10-15 degrees above normal and almost no snow. It looks like I may have been onto something.

I am seeing articles on the web about how Siberia was showing near record cold. (Only -79ºF what are you whining about?) The ongoing discussion is that there will be a warming in the arctic and that will push all of that cold air south into North America in about a week. ( The polar vortex if you will.) That should bring a much colder and snowier finish to the month.

There is a lot of speculation in all of this. This certainly hasn’t been a typical winter. There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully it works out in our favor.

Have a good Monday and thank you for visiting!
