Greetings and welcome!
The snow the other day added up to a slushy inch that didn’t last the day.
Now it looks like winter is upon us.
Last night we got about 1-1.5″ of snow. The weather forecast and radar say that there is an inch or two more happening but the ground truth says no. It is snowing lightly though.
Once I get done here I am going to go out and clear that little bit off of the driveway because if I don’t it will freeze in place and stay for the foreseeable future. The rest of the week has all below freezing temperatures. Friday-Sunday the NWS has us for a high temp in the low 20s and lows in the single digits. That is a big change from last week’s upper 40s and above freezing overnight lows.
That cold weather should do a wonderful job of freezing stuff up for winter. As always we would like to see the lands, swamps, and lakes to get a head start freezing before any heavy snow comes and insulates it. The 16 day GFS forecast model supports that with consistent cold and no heavy snows. It only goes out to 12/11 but there is no hint of any big changes within that time period.
I did make the prediction the other night that we will be able to ride between Christmas and New Years. Two weeks of below freezing weather would be a great start. I don’t see any big storms in that time frame, and that is fine. Freeze it first then frost it.
This is the view out of my new kitchen window. You will probably be seeing a lot of this. My house is near Caldron Falls Flowage between Fisher’s Camp and the old Thornton’s, and the snowmobile trail goes down the road in front of the house.
I am only 6 miles SE from the old house between the Hwy C & F junction and Kosir’s/Rapids Resort, but there is frequently more snow there due to the ~100′ higher elevation. The same thing happens again with our friends north and west of there where the elevation again increases by 100′ or more. The point is, there can easily be more snow even a few miles away than shows up on my deck. I might have 3″ here and out on Old J or north of Brandywine Lane it could be 5-6″. Keep that in mind.
Time to go play in the slush.
Have a good week and thank you for visiting!
