I edited this on 2-13 to add this weekend’s Thermal Chaos event.. RJB
Greetings and welcome!
The El Nino hell continues. In the past week or so we have been over 50 a few times and hit a high of 57 one day. Here is a screen cap from our friends over at Athelstane Weather that shows our highs and lows. I added the red line to approximate the 32ยบ mark.
We had a little surprise snow on Friday night. We were up at the Northwoods Bar and someone came in saying that it was snowing hard. Yup. It snowed up there enough that I couldn’t use my high beams and the grass actually got white. By the time I got to Silver Cliff it wasn’t snowing at all and there was none on the roads.
We are in a cooling trend as arctic air once again comes to the region. Looking ahead on the 16 day GFS I am not sure what to think. Yesterday it showed at least two significant storms that could bring meaningful snow and a couple of small ones. Today I don’t see more than one storm that would be a possible 1-3. Yesterday there was hope, today there isn’t. At least the ground is freezing again.
We have some events coming up this weekend.
It looked like the High Falls Fish-o-Rama was well attended last weekend even though there was no fishing and no radar runs. That’s good, that supports the Twin Bridge Ski Team that puts on water ski shows on High Falls Flowage in the summer. They have been doing this a long time and have it going on with prizes every 10 minutes.
Hopefully this weekend’s events are also well attended.
Last week one of the local bar owners was on the TV news talking about how the no snow snowmobiling season has business down by 60%. Ouch.
Let’s personify that a little.. If you made 40 grand a year last year and this year you make 16. That’s gonna smart when you start paying bills. As always I encourage you to visit on your regularly scheduled snowmobile trip but leave the whips at home. It can be fun because with a designated driver you can hang out at the favorite trail stops without worrying about staying sober for the ride home, and the bars and restaurants really appreciate the business. Likewise, the events are fundraisers for the various clubs, and you will want them around next year when we DO have snow.
Anyway.. I don’t think that winter is done with us yet. Hopefully the big snow comes in time to save a weekend or two.
That’s all that I have today. Have a good week and thank you for visiting!
