Greetings and welcome!
My apologies that I didn’t get to update yesterday. It was a bit of a unusual day.
Anyway.. Thursday night’s snow ended up being about 1/2-3/4″ of fine powdery snow here. It was enough to get the roads slick and hide some bare spots on the trails.
Right now it looks like the place to ride around here is up by the Dungood trails around Goodman and Dunbar. They are reporting a good base and early season conditions. You can ride Iron Snowshoe, but again it is early season conditions. They are open to UTV & ATV traffic north of Hwy C. The Athelstane trails are open, and Ranger City Riders is open on the trail from C & V up to Amberg. Crivitz, Wausaukee, and Oconto Co trails remain closed.
Looking ahead at the long term forecast I don’t see the snow going anywhere, but I also don’t see much for new snow. The GFS looks like it is stuck with high pressure and arctic air on top of us for the next couple of weeks. I do expect that to change at least a little. If you told me it would snow for two weeks straight I would be skeptical. While more probable, I have the same reaction to no chance of snow for two weeks.
While I am really not looking forward to Tuesday’s high of -1ºF I do like the idea of continuing to freeze lakes, swamps, and the ground in general. It will be good to get lakes to where it is safe to drive out onto them without sinking the truck and get them ready for all of the radar runs and winter festivals.
I have about 100 things to do before the cold wave comes so I am off to get to work. Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!
