Greetings and welcome!
I had to wait until the slop that fell in the last two storms firmed up a little before I could go and clear the driveway. Even my little Honda paddle snowblowers didn’t like the slushy sloppy mashed potatoes that we had for precip. We went below 32 last night and today, and it has firmed up quite a bit.
My snowblowing efforts were mostly futile as it would only clear the top 1/2″ or so. The rest was a massive ice base. A big glorious ice base. I would estimate it at about 2″ thick.
Here is where the car was parked.. Look at the ledge around the clear pavement!
Here is the lid to my pellet grill before and after I wiped off the free snow.
As you can see we didn’t get much snow but we sure did get some ice base. There already was a good 3-4″ ice base and now this is on top of it. That should buy us an extra weekend or two. Our week long spell of the 40s and 50s didn’t kill the first ice base and now it is reinforced. Bare spots and roads benefitted greatly.
Once the low spots with the huge puddles freeze in hard they will be able to groom it and bring us some really nice trails.
Something that needs to be said is that the sun is becoming a factor. As we get closer to March there will be sunny spots that burn off quickly. No problem- go around them.
The Red Arrow club up in Townsend has trails open as do the Dun-Good club and the LMT trails. I don’t expect that it will be long before the other clubs open up.
We have a clipper for Tuesday that should bring a little fresh snow. That would set us up nicely for next weekend. There was another one coming for about Thursday but the models are pushing that one south today. There is still time for that to bounce back.
If the snow picks up that monster ice base could stretch our season quite nicely. I wanted to show you what a beast that it is.
Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!
