Greetings and welcome!
So we had an inch plus of rain. It soaked into the remaining base and made it very slushy. It cooled down and now it is all freezing up. From what I saw most (95%) of the system survived intact and will now have a very durable base.
The bad news is that we only got about 1/2” of snow on top of it. At that point there is nothing to groom and the third guy down the trail will blow it clean. The other reason that the trails will still be closed is that all of that rain gathered in low spots and swamps. Wetland trails and low spots need to freeze up.
I saw one guy out riding the closed trails today. He was staying on top of the ice pack and only his carbides made the ski tracks. Nice base but they are not ready.
The weather ahead does not show any big storms. There are a few small ones lined up about every other day. Hopefully a couple of them bring 2-3” and we can get riding.
Areas to the northwest saw the rain change to snow, and their trails fared a little better. There might be trails that way for the short term.
Have a good week and thank you for visiting!
