Sunday 12-20-15

Greetings and welcome!

Yesterday was a very good day for freezing stuff up. When I went  past the Peshtigo River on the way to work in the morning there were ice lillies floating down the river at a pretty good pace. They were just the first thin crystals gathering up but some were a couple of feet across.

When I went past late afternoon the river was still putting out floating ice, but it was a lot thicker, and some pieces were pretty big.

122015 If we are making ice in fast moving water it has to be good for the lakes.

I got a whitewater update yesterday, the Peshtigo River got up to +24″ in the past few days, but was down to +19 yesterday afternoon. That is pretty big water, and a rarity in December.

Anyway, you probably saw yesterday morning’s temperatures. We ended up only getting into the mid-20s Saturday, and were in the mid teens last night. That is all very positive for freezing stuff up.

The week ahead looks ok for the cause. For the most part we are expecting highs in the mid-30s and lows in the 20s.

Today and Wednesday look a little warmer in advance of small weather systems, neither of which look like big snow makers.  The precip for tonight and Monday is expected to be drizzle initially and then some light snow. Wednesday’s system looks like rain and a little snow behind it.

There is a more impressive system showing up on the GFS for next weekend. As shown that would likely bring a 6″+ snow to the region. It is still a week out, but there is a glimmer of hope there.

We are up to 32 so it is time to go outside and play. Have a good Sunday and thank you for visiting!
