Greetings and welcome!
It looks like our season has finally has come to an end. As of noon today all of the Oconto County trails will close and Iron Snowshoe south of Hwy C will close at midnight tonight.
The trails north of Hwy C will remain open until they close them down for spring thaw. Those are year-round snowmobile and ATV trails mostly on county land. Those trails stay open except for in April when the ground gets soft from the frost-out or as we saw this year, when conditions make the trails dangerous.
As much as I hate to see the season go, it is time. The sun is brutal and will eat a hefty snow by noon. This coming week has a lot of weather not in our favor and we will see a lot of melting on the trails. There is no big storm coming to the rescue. The local trails are mostly either mud or ice except for in the woods. The roads that were solid ice after the last rain were clear and mostly dry by late afternoon. Unfortunately it is just time.
It got down to 9 degrees last night. It is up to 19 as of 9am, heading for a high of about 40. Once it warms up a little more I will go out and see if it is worth squeezing in one more ride. I’d like to, even if it only a couple of miles up to the gas station and back, but there is a lot of gravel and bare road between here and there.
At some point in the next day or two I will have a wrap-up post. I will explain why I kicked off all of my sponsors and removed the donation button, and talk about if there will be a season 25 of The Big Snow Page or not. I will probably put a tip cup out there so you can buy me a beer if you want to, and maybe a little bit about how I do my off season storage.
For right now I am going to focus on some breakfast. Have a good Sunday and thank you for visiting!
