Thursday 1-8-2026 Trails closed

Greetings and welcome,

Both Iron Snowshoe and all of Oconto County have closed trails to try to save some base. Yesterday we got up to 36- not catastrophic. Today might be a couple of degrees warmer.

Tonight- Thursday night is when the trouble starts. We have a big southern storm coming, but unless it takes a right turn tomorrow we are looking at rain. The TV said as much as an inch with even more to the south.

On a storm like this we like to see the low pressure area move northeast between about Chicago and Sheboygan. On this one it is moving northeast from Madison to Green Bay. That puts us very firmly into the rain side of the storm.

There will be some snow on the back of the storm, and how quickly it changes over will make a huge difference in our snow accumulation. Right now it is not looking good.

There was a second storm. The early models had it following the first one, and both bringing heavy snow in a classic 1-2 punch. Then the second storm went south. One model had the second storm tracking north over lower Michigan and hooking back west to nail us with a huge storm. I liked that one. The latest has the storm tracking over southern Ohio and not much coming this way.

Twenty four hours ago the models looked very different. There is still time for that to happen again.

Have a good Thursday and thank you for visiting!
