Greetings and welcome!
Finally I have an update. I have been a little under the weather and haven’t gone out much.
Anyway our 3-4″ of snow this week really went a long way to covering dark or stained trails. After our 46 & sunny day the base stayed intact for the most part but there were those high traffic areas that got dark or snirty or worse. The new snow helped a lot.
Today’s travels took me from Silver Cliff to Langlade, up through Lakewood and Townsend, and back home. The trails all looked really nice. The freshly groomed trail by Waubee Lodge (Paul Bunyan Riders) looked like it was magazine cover perfect. The RR grade along 32 had full coverage and was nice and flat. There were one or two spots that looked a little stained over by Langlade. For the vast majority of the drive the trails looked very good or better.
We could see another inch of snow tonight.
This weekend should be very pleasant with a high of 33 Saturday and 27 Sunday.
This is the part where I tell you to ride while you can. There is not much for snow in the forecast over the next week or so and the sun is getting evil. When I was walking the dog at 15 degrees yesterday there were a couple of sunny spots on the road actually melting off a little.
We have added over two hours to the length of daylight since the winter solstice (~Dec 21st). The sun is also higher in the sky making it warmer. My concern is that under the new snow a lot of high wear areas are snirty or very dark. On a sunny day the sun will really have its way with those spots. At some point we will start seeing signs of spring. Get it while you can.
We have not had a really big storm in a long time. There is one showing up for about March 8th that looks like a dandy on the GFS model. At 10 days out it isn’t anything to bet on but it is a glimmer of hope.
Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!
