Greetings and welcome!

Today almost felt warm with the sun out and the high of 16 degrees. There wasn’t as much wind, maybe that was part of it. Our normal high right now is 33, our normal low is 8. Today we had a high of 16 and a low of -18.

Tonight is going to be pretty clear, so somewhere in the mid or upper teens below zero sounds like a good guess.

The weather looks a lot better for this weekend. Friday we are looking at sunny and upper teens, Saturday, about 20, maybe a degree or two more, and Sunday’s forecast is for mid to upper 20s. There is a chance of some light snow Sunday.

Today didn’t seem bad with the sun and minimal wind. The sun was doing its thing in the parking lot at work, melting the thinner ice, even at 16 degrees.

Our length of day at the winter solstice is about 8.5 hours. We are getting close to the 11 hour mark today. By March 10th we will add another half hour! Here is a neat calculator that shows the length of day on any given day. We are just over 45ºN (45º25’22”).

On to the events..

This weekend brings some good ones. First up is the rescheduled High Falls Radar Run, Winterfest, and Fish-O-Ree. Two weeks ago they had 30+ MPH winds drifting snow and causing whiteout conditions, and not being nice to the giant tent. They rescheduled for this weekend, and the weather will be a lot nicer to them.

Next up we have SlugFeast with the Bear Point Sno-Cruisers. SlugFeast is a trail side picnic with all kinds of great homemade food and a cooler of pop. It is a big buffet with no price, but there is a donation can at the end. You pay what you feel like donating. Naturally snowmobilers are a generous lot, especially when it is a club benefit, and it works out good for everyone.

When they did this by the Lake Mary fire tower, hundreds of snowmobilers would stop, and cars would be parked on both sides of the road quite a ways down.

This year it is by the Bear Point Yacht Club, across the street at the motel.

The next event is the old NEW Low Buck Vintage Riders Racer’s to The Pines (Crooked Lake) Run. This year they are having a poker run and adding a few stops. I rode this one a few years ago and had a blast. There were nice people and some great old sleds.

Last but not least.. our Tuesday storm. The latest model run that I have is showing it tracking a little south of this morning’s version. We would still be in the 4-6″ plus band, and it would be snow. There will be some wind and cold behind it too, hopefully making the weekend of the 7th a good bet.

There is some pretty warm stuff showing up on the GFS after the 10th, we will see how that goes. For now, ride ’em if ya got ’em. The season is getting mighty short.

Have a good Friday and thank you for visiting!
