The trails that aren’t open yet will open Friday for the most part. It is early season and the system is just coming up to speed.
I went to Crivitz today and got to see a couple of roadside trails. For the most part they looked really good. There were some worn spots where people gun it but I would have no hesitation to ride (if I were ready). My thought was that it was pretty good for having less than a foot of snow. That extra moisture in the base really helped.
One thing that I need to share is that all of the roads around here are really icy. The storm brought a lot of moisture in the first 4”, which promptly froze into a system wide sheet of ice. Since then it has been very cold. Salt doesn’t work at all under 15 and is most effective above 20. We had a high of 8 today. Even county roads are greasy. They did what they could scraping and sanding it, but it is still icy.
That is of course good news for trails that go down paved roads.
We have a couple of more days of cold weather before the next snow. Sunday night we have an intense but fast moving storm that could bring a couple of inches. After that we are looking a a warm week. I’m not sure how that ends.
