Greetings and welcome!
We have turned a corner of sorts. Gone are the days of 40-50 degree daytime high temperatures and above freezing overnight temperatures. Those have been replaced with overnight lows in the mid and upper teens and high temps around 30.
We are pretty much starting from square one with open water on most lakes last week and not much for frost in the ground. Hopefully those cooler temperatures will help to freeze the ground and wet areas and start putting a lid on the lakes.
There are only a couple of chances for flurries or light snow in the near future. Farther out in the time frame there are a couple of storm showing up on the 16 day GFS forecast model. Yesterday there were three, and at least one looked like a good one. This morning there were only two and they didn’t look very impressive. Especially in an ElNino year I am not going to get too excited about snow 10 or 12 days out. It is a trademark deception of ElNino.. There is always a little hope for a storm 14 or 16 days out, and those storms rarely play out.
At least it is starting to act a little like winter. I don’t miss the -30ยบ nights and a high of -5 for 6 weeks at a time that some winters bring, but a little winter would be nice.
Happy new year and thank you for visiting!
