Greetings and welcome!

If you didn’t hate ElNino before this is the year to start.

Right now it is a beautiful sunny 40 degree day. Yesterday it was 45. On Christmas we had a low of about 38. The days before that were over 40 and had thick fog.

Right now we have no snow on the ground at all, even in the piles where the plow pushed it. The ice on the lakes is opening up too. A while back the cold nights were winning. Most lakes had frozen across and some bays had 2-6″ of ice. After so many warm days and nights that ice is failing.

I remember so many years that we could drive on Caldron Falls after Christmas, and the snowmobile trails were open and busy by now. This is as far from there as you can get.

There is a chance of a little snow tonight, but it is expected to change to rain. It would be pretty minor accumulations if it were all snow. There is another disturbance possible for New Years Eve/Day, but that one would be generous if it left 1-3″.

Right now we need at least a week of good cold weather to start freezing lakes, the ground, rivers, and swamps before big snows come. Anything less would leave a lot of low spots muddy. Places like the swamps are probably going to want a lot more cold before they are passable.

As far as it goes our winter progression has been set back to about early November.

There is more cold coming after the new year. Hopefully it turns around for us in a big way. Right now there is no snow, minimal frozen ground, and no decent ice on the lakes.

ElNino sucks and this is a particularly strong one.

Have a good holiday and thank you for visiting!
