Greetings and welcome!
January is here, at least with the temperatures. Last night we hit -2 and this morning the wind chill was in the -16 range. Today we are up to 14 so far at noon. Behind tonight’s clipper (<1″ of snow expected) it will get colder, with a high of 7 tomorrow and a low of -12 tomorrow night. Looks like it is time to bring in some of that special January wood, the super dry premium oak.
Some corrections-
As I got out and about yesterday it looked like the snow added up to about 1/2″, not the 1/8th as reported.
I also mentioned northern Shawano Co as a possible riding spot. That was a typo, it was supposed to be northern Langlade Co. According to yesterday’s snow map they have a little more snow than areas to the east.
We also have some more new events to add for the weekend.
Crandon Lions are having their Fish-O-Ree at the Community Building this Saturday starting at noon.
There is a LMT Trails snowmobile Rally at T-Bob’s in Laona Saturday from 11-6. They will have food & refreshments as well as raffles and the paddle wheel. Proceeds go to trail maintainence.
Those two came in the Forest Co Beacon, which was a day late thanks to MLK Day.
This Military Ride in Eagle River just came to my attention..
Apparently they take combat vets riding and set them up with gear, and they get to see the big derby. Cool stuff.
The weather outlook changed a little. The storm for about Friday looks like it will stay downstate and not affect us much. Boo hiss. Saturday looks seasonal or a little cold, and the storm for Sunday looks like it is hold off until afternoon on the latest GFS.
A friend called this morning to see if I wanted to go ride today. He is trailering up to Goodman and has been riding that area, western Florence Co and into Forest Co. He reported the trails mostly good with a few fair spots, and this is his 3rd trip up there in 5 days. I would love to go, but here comes that four letter word that keeps us all off of the trail- work. I am so booked up today it is silly. I’m happy to have the work, but not happy about missing a ride.
I caught an article this morning that Seattle is expecting a big snowstorm disaster. They are closing schools, rerouting flights, stocking up on stuff from the store, and getting ready for a disaster that could last a couple of days. The forecast is for 3-5″ of snow. Apparently they don’t get much and they are not ready for it. Send it here, that would make a lot of people very happy.
That is about it for today. Have a good Wednesday and thank you for visiting!
