Greetings and welcome!
There is no hope for the snowmobile season anymore. The typical season end is March 15 unless we have very unusual conditions. Normally the sun is so brutal by this time of year that it can eat a lot of snow on just a sunny morning and parts of the trail are getting sunburned. I guess that isn’t a problem this year. We have been having way too many days in the 40s and 50s, and next week we have a couple of days that should cross the 60 degree mark. The only snow left is snow piles in deep shadows.
One would hope that this means an early start to ATV trails. Maybe, maybe not. One of the challenges is that most nights still go below freezing and freeze the ground, leaving it sloppy and soft when it thaws. On one level this should help to dry it out faster, the same theory behind freeze dried foods or coffee. That’s all well and good until the rain comes and starts the cycle over.
It is possible that things will dry up and trails can open early. Only time will tell. The county road trails don’t open until May 1st.
We have some events for this weekend. The first is the Keyes Uphill Drags where they race 4×4 trucks up a big snow covered hill up in Florence Co. Look it up. There are plenty of posts about it and some YouTube videos too.
