Wow this is like old times doing a 2:30am update. There is some exciting stuff going on so let’s get to it.
The snow for today (40%) and tonight (30%) still looks light. We could see up to an inch if it hits just right.
Sunday’s storm is still on track for a 1-3 and there is a decent possibly of as much as a 2-4 or 3-6 inch snow.
Looking ahead on the GFS (Link to the 6pm run from last night) it is showing a nice parade of bigger storms coming our way over the next two weeks. Some might not be all snow, but details on the rain snow line a week out are a little sketchy for that range of forecast.
What I like is that there is a big storm possible about every four days. It would be great to see a chance at some bigger storms and maybe our first 6″ snow of the season. According to the guidance at least we would at least be in the game.
The GFS can be a fickle beast farther out in the forecast, and maybe it won’t show as hot of a forecast in future runs. I like what it says now, and I’d be trying to click the paint off of the Buy It Now button if there was one.
Dan from Riding With Dan & Dillon posted that he found good and bad trails up north yesterday.
A FB friend and fellow snowmobiler named Andy Tomka from Hartford posted this video from the groomer on the 100 miler from Wednesday. If the guy is using his cutter blades, it has to have a decent layer. They don’t say what trail it is, but at about 1:24 into the vid it shows him driving over the Popple River bridge.
At 1:55 in it shows the groomer cutting and the snow flying up.
Snow friction… Most of us know that the groomer cuts the tops off of the whoopties and fills in the valleys. What you might not have considered was friction. When the snow gets worked swirling around in the drag it heats up a little, making it more packable. Once it is laid down it refreezes. It is the same principal as in an avalanche where the victims find themselves bound tight as the snow stops moving and locks up. Snow friction.
Also from Facebook, another rider named Nathan Lardonis posted with a link to an article that said that Cellcom was testing 4G LTE data on some of their towers in Door Co, and that Marinette and Oconto Counties would be in their first phase of the roll out. It would be great to have the upgrade, our network gets pretty bogged down sometimes. I am not sure if it was related, but I lost both cell phone and data service for a little while tonight, and when it came back the net was nice and zippy.

Some comments on the calendar of events:
Not listed is the Town of Riverview Turkey Bowling Tournament- noon Sat 2/25. At the Town Hall- just north of Halfway Bar on Hwy 32. Teams of four are needed- you can register on the day of the event.
Doze Inn Kids Fisheree- this is a totally free for kids, family friendly event. Food, drinks, fishing poles, prizes for kids all free. This event was actually started many years ago in part for my kids and the big group of friends who came up to Doze Inn. It’s a great event.
Chute Pond Trailside Cookout- this is another great event, held at the railroad grade at Torschi Rd, just north of Mountain. If you can’t or won’t ride (I wouldn’t- too much gravel), you can park on Torschi Ln off Hwy 32 and walk in. Help support your local snowmobile club- check out this event.

Fisher’s Camp is having a meat raffle and a DJ this Saturday from 2-5 on. Someone on their Facebook page commented that they had to be at a Lake Noquebay Fishorama, so apparently there is one of those as well.
I ran into the guys from Ohio last night when they were in for pizza. Unfortunately I brought a camera with a dead battery. Hopefully they will stop in again tonight for fish fry.
I will update later or tomorrow with snow totals as needed.
