Greetings and welcome!
We are one day away from the New Low Buck Riders Vintage Snowmobile Show and Swap at the Gateway Bar in Crivitz. It looks like it will be a comfortable day for it with highs in the mid-40s. It is always a good show, and comes highly recommended. See the Monday update for details.
The weather has been predictable the past few days, and a lot more like early November than early December. The high of about 40 and lows in the mid-20s will continue for the next week or so, with the exception of this weekend, when we can add 5 degrees or a little more.
There isn’t much frost in the ground, especially where the sun hits it. The ground is actually a little soft and muddy from the frost freezing overnight and thawing during the day. Some places are even straight up muddy. The cold is winning in the shadows though, sheltered areas are not thawing out during the day and hold at leat a little frost.
Smaller lakes are starting to get ice all of the way across, though it isn’t much, and not enough to walk on.
While the forecast isn’t very cold for the next week, after about the 13th the GFS has thing turning around a little and getting more normal for temperatures. Hopefully things will start freezing hard then. I don’t expect that it will take too many cold nights to get the process started.
Right now I have about zero hope of local trails opening by the 15th, but the Christmas to New Years stretch is still a blank slate. In the meantime it looks like I have at least one more nice weekend to get ready for it.
Have a good weekend and thank you for visiting!
