Greetings and welcome!
It was a sunny and 40 degree day outside today. That made the snow consolidate into very packy snow and shrunk our snowcover by a couple of inches.
I was real sure that I was going riding today or else. A ride down to the mailbox and back and around the yard was about it for today. Unfortunately for me the plowed road between here and the trail had burned off by the time that I got there. The gravel shoulder was soft too, so I stayed close to home. It was my own fault for not being out there Saturday at 6am.
I didn’t want to snowplow the driveway with all of the mud and ice under it, but I had to do at least the mailbox and main road. The snow balled up coming off of the plow and some monuments were almost 3′ high. It is excellent packing snow.
In the places that held base this snow should pack down wonderfully once it bonds to the base. Where the snow had gone and the frost had come out still has soft ground under the snow. I had hoped for at least some ground freezing when we went into the low teens last night, but that was not the case.
Note to self.. Get out there and ride when it snows, the evil March sun is not your friend.
Have a good night and thank you for visiting!
