Greetings and welcome!
Yesterday was pretty bad for our sport. The TV says that Land O Lakes and Iron Mountain had high temperatures of 46 and 47 and the sun was out. Athelstane Weather had a high of 43. There was a LOT of melting. Plowed roads are shot except where the trees shaded the road.
The trails in Wausaukee seemed to hold up ok, I didn’t see any bare spots, but that was probably because of the ice base.
We are expecting low 40s again today, followed by more of the same plus rain Friday-Sunday.
I saw that a couple of clubs are asking people to stay off of the trails until the cold returns to preserve the base for the days ahead. Even our brick of an ice base gets very soft and vulnerable in weather like this. Even a couple of riders, or God forbid, some 4 wheelers, would do a lot of damage.
The parking lot at work had a good snow layer and an ice layer on top. A lot of that was gone or getting soft after yesterday’s sun and 40+ temps. I agree that we should leave ’em parked until it cools off.
That should come about mid-week next week, along with some snow. Hopefully this is only a one week break in the action.
Time to make the donuts.
Have a good Thursday and thank you for visiting!
