Greetings and welcome!

I’m burning the nice dry oak firewood this morning, the January wood if you will.  Crivitz has -10, Athelstane has -11, and Wabeno has -16. That is without wind chill, and the wind is blowing. The TV is showing wind chill values from -20 to -35F, and schools either being delayed or cancelled.

Yesterday I got a look at trails along Hwy C in Wausaukee and Athelstane in the daylight. There wasn’t an overabundance of snow, but there was full coverage and they had been groomed flat. Here in Silver Cliff we have a little more snow, and the freshly groomed trail looked very nice.

We are still looking at deep cold for the weekend, with a high of 8 Saturday and 12 Sunday. Next week’s Monday to Wednesday storm is not looking as good as it did a couple of days ago. The GFS forecast model has the main part of the storm pushing a couple of states too far south for us to get heavy snow. The only good news in that is that there are still 4-5 days for the model to switch back to the preferred scenario.

One last item, my purchase of  a couple of raffle tickets from the Iron Snowshoe 26 week gun raffle paid off in week two when I won a nice Henry rifle. I have the choice of the gun, almost $500 in cash, or the equivalent in meat from Meatski’s. It is a very nice rifle, but right now the plan is to take the cash.

That is news for this morning. Have a good Thursday and thank you for visiting!
