Greetings and welcome!
We had another cold night last night. -13. Again I am not sure if it is a record but it has to be close.
We had some very minor melting on sunny roads yesterday. For the most part we haven’t lost much snow this week at all.
My travels this week took me to Crivitz, Peshtigo, and Crooked Lake. Trails everywhere looked great. The trails by Coleman could have used another pass with a groomer in a couple of spots but were still in very nice shape. Crooked Lake looked excellent. It is hard to believe that it is March 7th.
The models are in good agreement that we will see snow this weekend. Amounts vary from 5-7″ according to the TV. I could see it going higher. The big question is the timing. My best guess is still for it to hit about sunset with the heaviest snow coming after dark. There is a chance of some snow during the day, but the real party comes later.
There is another storm that I am watching for mid-week next week. That one could bring rain and (gulp) 40+ for temps. Hopefully that changes.
The NWS had an article about how this is the 3rd most snow for the season in Rhinelander. Right now they are at 101.7″, and the record is 110.3″ I fully expect to see that record broken. I am not sure of our totals but we are not too far behind them.
People have been asking when the trails close. There is no set date. A lot of years they close on March 15th because the sun did its thing and the frost was starting to come out of the ground. We have a couple of feet of compact snow to melt before that happens. The latest that I have seen them open was a couple of years ago when they were still open the weekend of April 15th. Wow. It all comes down to conditions.
Time for me to get back to work. Have a good Thursday and thank you for visiting!
