Greetings and welcome!
The 3-4″ of snow from last week is pretty much gone. We saw 46 yesterday and 36 today. There is some patchy stuff left but not much.
An interesting twist in the weather is coming up this week. Yesterday our high was 46. Thursday our expected high temperature is 8 with a low of about -4. Then there is a warmer weekend and early week ahead with 36 Sunday and 38 Monday. Mother Nature is being fickle again.
There are several storms possible in the near term. There is a chance of some snow squalls tomorrow in advance of the cold air.
There is another chance over the weekend, with a storm coming out of the southwest. The European model (Euro) is showing the storm dispersing as it gets here and no accumulation likely. The GFS is much more interesting with the storm staying together and putting us on the edge of the rain/snow line. Their projected change in snow cover suggests as little as 2-3 or as much as 6″. With such scattered guidance all that we have is uncertainty.
There is another storm from the southwest on the GFS for the 19th. That is a big storm and right now it shows us with a classic rain to snow scenario with timing being the key to accumulation totals.
The Euro shows a very different picture with a little rain.
Ok then.
A couple of thoughts here.. First it has been my anecdotal experience that when the models are all over the place good things happen.
The second thought is that the one place that the models are consistent is taking us into a more unsettled period with storms coming our way. See thought number one.
For right now the ground has been freezing or at least getting a good start on it. A lot of lakes have ice but it is just getting started. I would not walk across most of the ponds that I saw in my travels today. There are reports of as much as 2-4″ of ice, but I also saw FB posts about guys sinking 4 wheelers too. Give it some time.
I see where some areas of the UP have nice trails, but it is as hit and miss as the lake effect snow.
There hasn’t been a lot to talk about for the past week but the next week should be interesting.
Have a good week and thank you for visiting!!
